Notes: DOB 2/1/2015. Meet Maverick this overly handsome boy is up for adoption here at the shelter, you will find him in the front lobby watching the birds from the cat towers. Maverick came to us as a stray and would love nothing more than to be in a home but to be honest he may want to be an indoor/outdoor cat. With this said we need to inform you he is FIV positive...before you look the other way please read up on FIV, these cats usually live long healthy lives and can be no harm to your current cats if they all get along. FIV is only transmitted through deep blood drawing bite wounds. Good news is this guy is a very casual and will not start a fight. Please stop by to visit him, he enjoys the attention!

Intake Status: Stray
Where Found: Fishbeck & Itsell in Howell, Michigan
Notes: DOB 1/1/2014. Itty-Bitty came to LCAS as a stray covered in fleas, skinny, bad ears and the most loving girl; with many issues she never stopped purring or rolling over for belly rubs. Please read the attached notes from our staff veterinarian that will explain her special needs. Itty- Bitty is the sweetest and will make a perfect addition to any family, her adoption fee will be $40 this includes all completed medical. She will be available for adoption as a special needs animal, and adopter should get handouts on her two medical conditions. Ceruminous gland cystadenomatosis and plasma cell pododermatitis. Her ear condition causes her ear wax glands to form little lumps within her ear canals that cause the canals to be more narrow and moist with wax than typical cat ears. This can create suboptimal drainage of the ear which can predispose the cat to develop periodic, or sometimes ongoing ear infections which would need to be treated with medication as they arise. If the condition should become severe over time and unresponsive to typical medication/ cleaning, a veterinarian could recommend laser removal of the small masses or possibly an aggressive surgery of the ear. The plasma cell pododermatitis of the foot pads has responded well to minimal treatment, and at this time we will discontinue treatment and monitor in shelter for any recurrence. It is believed to be an inflammatory process related to an allergy or autoimmunity, but often responds well to general medical management with steroids or a long term oral antibiotic called Doxycycline. When she arrived, Itty-Bitty had severe fleas which I think may be a contributing factor, but allergies to food or environment and other health factors may also play a role. She should be monitored over the next months to determine if issue recurs, and if so, adopters should be prepared that this may require ongoing vet care to keep her comfortable.

Animal information is updated on a regular basis.
